bollards

Fixed bollards are the bread-and-butter of the industry. Chances are they’re what you think of when you imagine a bollard. You’ll have seen them all your life: in shopping centres, busy streets, transport hubs, and in front of any sort of national landmark. Now you’ve started researching bollards you will see them EVERYWHERE. You’ll notice in most cases the bollards will be fixed into the ground. We generally recommend in-ground bollards are at least 400mm deep to ensure sufficient protection in an accident. The other standard type you may see is surface mounted which will have a base plate secured by screws or anchors.

Fixed bollards are standard for a reason: they work. They don’t require maintenance, they can fit any aesthetic, there’s a fixed bollard for every situation.

Why do you need a standard fixed bollard?

Parking bollards protect staff or tenant car parks from unauthorised use. There’s nothing worse than when you are late to work and there are no car parks! Not to mention getting home to your allocated car park being used by an unwelcome guest.
Ā
At MSA we have 2 types of parking bollards: The Okal Sentry Pivot and Okal Sentry Lock-In. As it sounds, the pivot parking bollards are attached to a surface mounted base and turn to the ground when unlocked. Our Lock-In Bollards have 2 separate parts: a surface mounted base and the bollard that can lock in. This way you can choose to use it when needed and store the bollard when you don’t.

Removable bollards are an important protective device for sitesĀ  where protection isn’t required permanently. This may be due to restricting access to authorised personnel only, protecting emergency exits from blockage by vehicles, or simply wanting a clear area during low risk hours. Removable bollards don’t require the same level of excavation that retractable bollards require, as the bollards are removed from the area and stored when not needed. The cover attached to the in-ground sleeve sits flush with the ground when bollard is removed to avoid tripping hazards.

Retractable Bollards provide high level protection and can be lowered into the ground when not in use. At MSA Bollards we have 3 manual retractable bollard models and 1 automatic electric. The MK2 is lifted/lowered with a T handle tool. The SD uses a battery drill with specialised key. The SPU is raised/retracted using a clutch lift key. Finally the electric can be programmed to a switch or remote control. Retractable bollards are perfect for hotel drive-throughs, roll-a-door entrances, gateways, lane ways, cul-de-sac entrances, car park entrances, and emergency thoroughfares.
